We offer light.
People find their way.
“Give light and let people find their way.”Ella Baker
Disciplined, relational wayfinding.
Clarity creates movement. Agency belongs to the people closest to the decision. Leadership without performance is still leadership. We do not impose paths, and we do not manufacture urgency. We offer light.
“Light does not need to be loud. It does not need to dominate. It does not need to rescue. It needs to make seeing possible.”
“We believe in rest without justification. In grief without spectacle. In change without abandonment.”
Light Without Instruction
We offer visibility and clarity without imposing urgency, manufacturing expertise, or controlling the direction someone chooses.
Agency Over Dominance
Movement is most effective when agency belongs to the people closest to the decision, not to the person holding the lantern.
Clarity Creates Movement
When people can see clearly, alignment becomes possible and transition becomes navigable, on their own terms, at their own pace.
Same light. Different destinations.
Under The Lantern, there are three distinct pathways. Each represents a different relationship to light.
The Quiet Room
The lantern is set downA space to step out of performance mode: invitation-only retreats, intimate circles, and ritual-based gatherings built for reflection, grief, and identity work.
- Grounding rituals
- Intimate circles
- Retreats
Purpose: recognition before resolution.
The Ferry
The lantern is sharedTeam coaching, culture repair, and change management for organizations navigating misalignment or transition, crossing difficult waters without leaving people behind.
- Team coaching
- CliftonStrengths
- Culture repair
- Change management
- Strategic planning
Purpose: movement with care.
The Compass
The lantern is consultedOne-on-one coaching for leaders in transition, at a career inflection point, or navigating a shift in identity. Clarity without prescription.
- Leadership transitions
- Identity shifts
- Career inflection points
Purpose: orientation before direction.
The Path Forward.
Every engagement, whichever pathway it lives on, moves through the same disciplined arc.
Assess
Context and landscape. We start by understanding where you stand, not where we assume you should be.
Clarify
Outcomes and barriers. We name what you're actually working toward, and what's genuinely in the way.
Design
Intentional sessions. Every conversation is built with a purpose. Nothing generic, nothing off the shelf.
Facilitate
Care and clarity. We hold the space; you do the moving. Direction is chosen collectively.
We do not manufacture urgency. Light is offered. Direction is chosen collectively.
Frameworks built for the moment they're used in.
Two of the tools we bring into engagements, built for the specific, often tender moments organizations move through.
The Leadership Conversation Framework
A four-session listening framework for honoring an outgoing leader's experience while gathering organizational learning that would otherwise walk out the door. Grounded in bell hooks's teaching that love is a practice of honesty, care, and commitment to another's growth.
Building Teams With Love
A guided Team Culture Action Plan that merges two frames of thought: Patrick Lencioni's Five Dysfunctions of a Team and bell hooks's All About Love. Teams name the dysfunction actually in the room, trace it to its root cause, and commit to leadership moves grounded in love rather than control, then schedule the first honest conversation within two weeks.
Andrea Black Evans
Founder, The Lantern Wayfinding Solutions“Give light and people will find the way.” That's not just The Lantern's founding line. It's how Andrea has led for two decades: steady, clear-eyed, and quick to hand the light back to whoever's holding it.
Her path started as a Teach For America corps member in an Atlanta classroom, then moved through a principal's office in Chicago she helped guide from underperforming to Good Standing, an M.Ed. from Harvard along the way, and now the national reach of a leadership academy across six cities. What she's carried forward from all of it isn't a title. It's a conviction: people find their footing fastest when they're trusted to choose it themselves, rarely when it's handed to them.
A proud Chicago native, Andrea's own story is one of resilience: a child who overcame poverty, a first-generation graduate of Fisk University, and a leader who refuses to pull the ladder up behind her. She remains a devoted advocate for HBCUs, the kind of institution that made her own path possible, and brings that same lens into every room now, whether she's sitting with a leader in transition or a team trying to find its way back to trust.
She's trained as a Gallup Strengths coach and a Deloitte Courageous Principals facilitator along the way: tools she still reaches for, but never leads with. It's why she founded The Lantern. Not to hand anyone a map. To hold the light steady, and trust people to find their own way.
The Lantern exists so that people can see clearly enough to move forward, together, and on their own terms.
